how to use went and want

Many students confuse went and want. Lets try to check when we have to use which word.

Went is used when you talk about the past. It is the past tense of “go”. So if you say “I go to the beach” today, you will say “I went to the beach” tomorrow.

  • I went to the beach
  • We went to Bangkok
  • She went swimming

Want has a totally different meaning. It shows desire! Something you like to do or to have is expressed with the word “want”

  • I do not have a car, but I want a car!
  • I am in Udon Thani but I want to go to Krabi!
  • He wants to learn English
  • We want good grades
  • I do not want to do homework
